Grief: Moving On After a Loss

Grief. It’s something that all of us face at some point in our lives, and it seems to be a destination where people arrive and never leave.

Eight years ago, I lost my Grandma Mary. She was one of the women who raised me and was my Mother. I believed that she was the only person who really loved me from the time she knew about me until the time she died. When I lost her, I felt like a ship cast out to sea with no sails or oars. It angered me when I realized that the world had kept moving. I couldn’t understand why the entire earth had not stopped spinning on its axis. I fell into a deep depression soon after she passed and it felt like I was lost in an abyss of darkness, pain and grief. What I didn’t understand was that my Grandma’s body had died but her Spirit would never leave me. As Albert Einstein said, “Energy cannot not be destroyed; it can only be transformed from one state to another.”

When you suffer the loss of a loved one, take some time to grieve, to cry & scream if you need to. Do not allow this to become your permanent state of being. You must get up and continue to live the rest of this beautiful life that you have been given. The fact that you are still here is proof that you have something more to do. Remind yourself that we are all made up of energy and energy can not be destroyed – just simply transformed. Your loved one has transformed into another beautiful form and will be with you always. Live a life that you know would make them proud. Find solace in the idea that you were loved and that you had the opportunity to share your love with someone so amazing. Live through your pain until it becomes a beautiful chapter in your story.

Sending you Love in abundance,

Stephanie
